Why this exists
The records are public. The process is not always simple.
The California State Controller currently holds roughly $15 billion across about 84 million individual properties — old bank accounts, uncashed paychecks and refunds, insurance payouts, utility deposits, and the surplus left over when a property sells at a tax sale for more than was owed.
Most people have no idea any of it exists, because the notice was mailed to an address they moved out of years ago. The records are public. Anyone can search them and file a claim without paying a cent. In practice most people never do, because they do not know to look, or because the paperwork and follow-up is more than they want to take on. That gap is the entire reason we exist.

Verify before asking
A name match is not proof of ownership. We confirm the right person before asking you to commit.
Protect your information
Searching requires a name and a state. We never ask for a Social Security number, bank account details, or payment information.
How we make money
Paid only when funds are recovered
We charge only the rate disclosed in your agreement after we actually recover funds. State unclaimed property and surplus or excess proceeds recoveries can be subject to different rules by state, county, and account type, and the fee never exceeds the maximum allowed by law in the applicable jurisdiction. Nothing is owed upfront, and nothing is owed if a claim is denied, withdrawn, or recovers nothing. There is no retainer, no hourly billing, and no charge for searching.
We think our fee is worth paying for the research and the paperwork. We also think you should know you can skip it. Every claim we send you names the government office holding the money and links you to where you could file it yourself for free.
