Privacy policy
Last updated July 24, 2026
This policy explains what Unclaimit LLC collects when you use unclaimit.com, why we collect it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Your first and last name, and the state you are searching, when you run a search.
- Your email address, and your phone number if you choose to provide it.
- Your consent choices — whether you confirmed ownership, and which contact methods you agreed to — together with the date, time, and IP address recorded at the moment you gave them. We keep this because we need to be able to show that consent was actually given.
- Documentation you send us to support a claim, such as proof of identity or of heirship. We only ask for this once a claim is being prepared, and we tell you how to send it securely.
Information we obtain elsewhere
We search public records published by the California State Controller’s Office and by county tax collectors. Those records already contain names, last known addresses, and property amounts, and they are public regardless of whether you ever contact us. When we match a public record to an inquiry, the matched record is stored alongside it.
What we never ask for
We do not request Social Security numbers, bank account or routing numbers, card numbers, or account passwords through this website, by email, or by phone. If you are asked for any of those by someone claiming to be us, it is not us.
Why we use it
- To search public records for property that may belong to you.
- To prepare, send, and file a claim, and to follow up with the agency holding the funds.
- To contact you about a claim, using only the methods you agreed to.
- To keep records of consent and of the work performed, as required to operate lawfully.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers, lead buyers, or advertisers.
Who else receives it
We use a small number of service providers, each of which sees only what it needs to:
- Documenso — generates and stores the authorization document you e-sign. Self-hosted by us.
- Postmark — delivers transactional email such as your claim report and signing link.
- Hetzner — hosts the servers where the application and database run.
- Government agencies — when you authorize a claim, the information required to file it is submitted to the State Controller’s Office or the relevant county.
We may also disclose information where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to investigate fraud or protect someone’s safety.
How long we keep it
Inquiry and claim records are retained while a claim is active and afterwards for as long as we are required to keep records of the transaction and the consent behind it. If you never proceed past a search, you can ask us to delete your inquiry at any time.
Your rights in California
California residents may request to know what personal information we hold about them, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted; and may not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of on that front.
To make a request, email help@unclaimit.com. We will verify your identity before acting, since these requests can otherwise be used to extract someone else’s information. Some records may need to be retained where the law requires it — for example records of a filed claim — and we will say so if that applies.
Security
Traffic to this site is encrypted in transit. Claim portal links are single-purpose and unguessable, and we store only a hash of each one rather than the link itself. Access to claim data is restricted to staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we will notify affected people if we become aware of a breach involving their information.
Children
This service is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, where the change affects an active claim, tell you directly.
