For state unclaimed property, our fee is the rate shown in the fee schedule and is subject to the maximum allowed by law. Surplus and excess proceeds recovery fees vary by state, county, and account type and never exceed the maximum allowed in your jurisdiction. The fee is deducted from the recovered funds, so nothing comes out of your pocket. Your exact rate, gross amount, fee, and net are shown in your agreement before you sign.

You owe nothing. We absorb the cost of the work. If a claim is denied for a fixable reason, such as missing documentation, we will tell you what is needed and whether it is worth pursuing.

Straightforward State Controller claims commonly take a few months; county surplus claims and anything involving an estate or multiple heirs can take considerably longer. No, and we are careful not to imply otherwise. A search match means a record exists with a name like yours. Names repeat, and the record may belong to someone else entirely. Ownership has to be verified before anything can be filed, which is a step we do before asking you to commit to anything.

Yes. You can withdraw your authorization at any point before the claim is filed, at no cost, by emailing help@unclaimit.com. If a claim has already been filed, contact us and we will explain what can still be done.

Some things worth checking, with us or with anyone else who contacts you about unclaimed money: a legitimate recovery service will never ask for an upfront payment, never ask for your Social Security number or bank credentials by phone or email, will tell you which government office holds the funds so you can verify it independently, and will tell you that you can file yourself for free.
